Privacy & Cookie Policy — DailyDigest.com
Effective Date: 01/01/2002
Updated: 12/04/2025
At DailyDigest.com, we respect your privacy. This Privacy & Cookie Policy outlines the types of personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data, including details related to advertising services like Google AdSense.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
a. Personal Information
- Name and email address (if provided via contact forms or newsletter signup)
b. Automatically Collected Data
- IP address
- Browser type and version
- Device type
- Referring pages and time spent on site
- Interaction with ads and content
c. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to enhance your browsing experience, analyze traffic, and serve relevant advertisements.
d. Accounts and Sign-In
If you create an account we store your name, your email address, the handle you choose and, if you set one, your password (kept only as a hash we cannot read).
You can also sign in with Google, Apple or Facebook. We ask the provider only for your name and your email address. It sends us:
- your name
- your email address, and whether the provider has verified it (with Apple this can be a private forwarding address, if you choose Hide My Email)
- the provider’s ID for your account, which we store so that we recognize you the next time you sign in
Google also sends a link to your profile picture, which we do not keep. We never receive your password for that provider, and we do not read your contacts, friends, posts or anything else held there. The provider learns that you signed in to DailyDigest.com, under its own privacy policy.
You can see and unlink a provider at any time in Settings, under Sign-In. Deleting your account deletes these links with it.
e. Weather and Your Place
The weather tile shows the forecast for a place you choose. We keep the name of that city, and whether you prefer Celsius or Fahrenheit, in your browser’s local storage, and in your account if you are signed in, so that the tile remembers them. It is a city, never your address or your exact position. Press Change Location and then Clear to remove it.
Until you choose a place, the tile may suggest the city your internet connection appears to be in. Cloudflare, the network our site is served through, estimates that city from your IP address when the page asks for it. We do not store your IP address or the suggestion, and nothing is saved unless you accept it.
If you press Use My Location, your browser asks your permission first. The position it gives is rounded to about 11 km (7 miles) before it leaves your device. We use it once, to find the nearest city on our list, and do not keep it.
The forecast comes from MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute). Our server asks for it, so MET Norway receives the position of the city and nothing about you. We do not use your place to choose advertising.
f. Verifying Your Email Address
When you create an account we send one email to the address you gave, with a link to verify it. The account cannot be used until the address is verified. The link lasts 24 hours, and you can ask for a new one.
An account that is never verified is deleted after 7 days, along with everything entered at sign-up.
If someone tries to create an account with an address that already has one, no new account is created and the existing one is not changed. We send an email to that address to say that it happened.
g. Advertising and Analytics from Google
When we show ads, they come from Google AdSense. Your browser then loads a script from Google, and Google receives your IP address, your browser and device type, the address of the page you are reading and the address of the page that sent you. Google may set or read cookies and similar identifiers on your device to choose and measure ads, and to limit fraud. We choose where an ad appears on a page. We do not give Google your name, your email address, your account or the place you chose for the weather.
If we use Google Analytics 4, your browser loads Google’s tag and Google receives the pages you view, how long you stay, your approximate location, your device and browser, and an identifier it stores in a cookie. We use the totals to see which pages are read. Signed-in editors of the site are not counted.
We also keep our own count of visits. It uses no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, and it is separate from the two services above.
If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, Google’s advertising and analytics storage is off until you choose. A message from Google’s consent tool asks whether you agree to personalized ads and to measurement. You can decline, and ads may still appear, but they are not personalized to you. Clearing this site’s cookies and site data in your browser brings the message back so you can choose again.
You can also manage personalized ads in your Google account’s Ad Settings, and opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on. Google handles this data under its own privacy policy.
g. Email Between You and Us
If you write to us, or we write to you, the messages are kept in our mailbox so we can answer and keep track of them. If you have an account, a copy of those messages is part of the copy of your data you can ask for.
When your account is deleted we delete every conversation between you and us, including attachments and the copy held on our mail server. We keep one line in our records saying that a deletion took place, without your address.
