A brutal attack on a woman on a Vancouver highway led to a pair of bystanders teaming up to take down the assailant, bodyslamming and pinning the offender until the police arrived. William Byrum and Joey Thomas witnessed the man beating the woman after she pulled over and held up traffic. The passenger, Darrel D. Classen, began assaulting her. The woman tried to flee. He took chase.
After witnessing the attack – and a subsequent attack on a bystanding woman who tried to intervene – Byrum and Thomas sprung into action.
“I picked him up and just slammed him down on the ground so that I could get on top of him,” Byrum said.
Byrum said he told Classen, “’Yeah, you’re going to jail. We are gonna sit here until the cops get here and you’re going to jail.'”
“The way I look at it is, you don’t hit women. I would hope if it were my wife or my mom, somebody else would have taken action if I wasn’t there,” said Thomas.
Byrum agrees with his new pal. “We did something good for somebody we didn’t know. And that’s what’s important,” he says. And we couldn’t agree more…
