Deer Park, Ohio. What do you think of when you picture a Christmas Nativity scene in your mind’s eye? A cute baby Jesus in a manger, three wise men staring at him nicely? A few donkeys… Mary and Joseph too? Sure. But as zombies?! No, of course not – it’s Christmas, not Halloween! But then again you’re not Jason Dixon. He loves Christmas, nearly as much as he loves zombies. But his neighborhood doesn’t share his affections…
Dixon told WTSP News: “I wanted a nativity scene and I worked with what I had. I think it’s the theme. It just rubs people the wrong way and it puts the spotlight on me. That’s why they’re coming down so hard on me. If it was a real pretty nativity scene they wouldn’t be saying anything.”Â
Last year, Township officials told him he had to take it down because he didn’t have the proper permits. This year, he went ahead and applied for the permit – but was denied. Apparently, he was denied the permit because ‘the structure takes up more than 35% of his front yard’. But Mr. Dixon doesn’t believe that’s true. And he’s getting some pretty heavy fines.
