About Formula One
It is the highest class of the sport, run by the Formula One Group and sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, the FIA. The word formula refers to the rules every participating car must follow. A season is a series of races called Grands Prix, held in many countries and on several continents, either on purpose-built circuits or on closed roads as street circuits. Each driver needs a valid Super Licence, the top class of racing licence the FIA issues, and races must take place on Grade One tracks, the highest grade the FIA gives circuits. Liberty Media Corporation leases the commercial rights, which it acquired in 2017, and under that ownership six Grands Prix joined the calendar: Miami, Las Vegas, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Dutch and Barcelona-Catalunya.
