About NFL
It was formed in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association and took its present name for the 1922 season. The league is headquartered in New York City, at 345 Park Avenue, a 44-story office skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan. It has 32 teams, split equally between the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference. A season opens with a three-week preseason in August, followed by an 18-week regular season from early September to early January, in which each team plays 17 games and has one bye week. Seven teams from each conference reach the playoffs, a single-elimination tournament that ends with the Super Bowl in early February.
