About MLB
It has 30 teams, 29 in the United States and 1 in Canada, divided equally between the National League and the American League. Each team plays 162 games a season, with Opening Day in the last week of March or the first week of April. Six teams from each league reach a four-round postseason in October that ends with the World Series, a best-of-seven final between the two league champions, first played in 1903. The two leagues competed fiercely until the National Agreement of 1903, when they agreed to respect each other's player contracts, and they stayed legally separate until 2000, when they merged into one organization led by the commissioner of baseball. Minor League Baseball sits one level below.
