How far will we go to protect the ones we love? That’s the question that’s asked in the astonishing film ‘Cargo’, which was a finalist at the Tropfest short film festival in Australia in 2013. In the film, a father wakes to find himself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. So far, so predictable. The zombie apocalypse has been done to death in recent years, with every possible angle covered.
Or at least that’s what we thought. In this extraordinary video written and directed by talented short filmmakers Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramke, the man in question wakes up in the middle of a zombie apocalypse next to his infected wife … and their baby is in the back of the car. Realizing he has to get his baby out of the car before his wife turns on the poor defenseless child, the man gets down to business. It’s only after he’s successfully rescued his baby that he realizes he, too, has been infected.
He needs to get his precious cargo to safety, but he also knows what will happen the minute he turns into a zombie. He needs a plan and he needs to act on that plan fast. What he does next to protect his daughter and carry her to safety even as he slowly turns into a zombie is both ingenious and will break your heart. This is incredible, emotional story-telling from a very talented team of people. After watching this, we can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
