Paris has a scheme where the council install pianos in a number of stations across the city and allow members of the public to play them as they like. The project, known as “à vous de jouer” (it’s your go) has proved very popular, with wannabe musicians keeping waiting travelers entertained for hours on end.

Recently, Spaniard Gerard Pla Daró sat down at a piano at Austerlitz station in the southeast of the city and began to play. Shortly afterwards, Nassim Zaouche, from Algeria, approaches the piano, and begins to accompany Gerard in a performance of ‘Una Mattina’ by Luddovico Einaudi. What follows is a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song, which stops fellow commuters in their tracks and has them gathering around the piano.
