Paul Hullings and Tim Young are firefighters from New Jersey who work hard. Putting out fires and rescuing people is tough work. And thirsty work. So, after a particularly tough twelve hour shift recently, they headed to their favorite coffee shop to order up two extra large Americanos. It was around 6am. As they waited for their drinks, they discussed the massive fire they’d been dealing with that night. It was the talk of the town and they were right in the middle of it. Liz Woodward, the barista, overheard their conversation. She soon returned with their drinks. And eventually,…

On the street or in a bar – at home or in a parking lot… Violence has no place anywhere, really. Fighting isn’t cool. People get hurt. But sometimes it’s necessary, though. In combat, for instance. And when it comes to combat, you don’t get many organizations more adept than the US Marine Corps. The only other time violence is excusable in a civilized society is for sport. Boxing and mixed martial arts are extremely popular, drawing large crowds and making millions via pay-per-view events. But who’s tougher? UFC fighters or Marines? Who would you back in a fight between…

In one village in Oklahoma, people are leaving their water coolers outside on their front porches. Why? Well, with good reason. When we heard about this for the first time, it really made our day. And it might do the same for you… There’s been a huge heatwave in Oklahoma recently. Unseasonably hot weather increases the chances of people becoming ill due to dehydration. That’s why ‘hydration stations’ are often set up to keep people hydrated and refreshed. But, what, ask the people in the community known locally as ‘The Village’, about the postmen? Postal workers don’t seem to get…

Sulphur, Louisiana. Local man Glen Taylor Bonin is drunk. He’d have to be pretty well oiled to do what he did. And what was that? Well, attempt to move a hungry alligator from the road, that’s what. After a comprehensive study of their DNA and genetic make-up, scientists are now saying that octopuses (it’s not ‘octopi’, okay?) are basically aliens… Yep, really. Mapping of the cephalopod genome sequence for the very first time shows that the eight-legged sea creatures have 33,000 protein-coding genes. That’s a huge number more than us humans – who claim to be the most impressive and complex animals on the planet. Their DNA also seems to be infinitely more complicated than any other species, with what’s known as ‘jumping genes’. The new studies are encouraging researchers to effectively label the octopus as ‘alien’.…

Night vision footage taken by a paranormal investigator has captured a doll in a locked security box seemingly moving by itself. Then without warning my throat suddenly went really tight,…

Ashley Yeats from Bedfordshire figured that the odd DVD or Netflix effort on his TV wasn’t enough of an experience, so went about creating his very own move theater just yards from his house. Here’s what it looks like from outside. Admittedly it’s not small, but you’d never guess what lurks within……

Spencer Seabrooke is what’s known as a ‘slackliner’. Similar to tightrope walking (but with a slacker line, obviously), this highwire walking requires a daredevil attitude and level of concentration found in about 0.01% of the population. Seabrooke has it. But he almost lost it recently. He almost lost EVERYTHING. 950ft up in the air, he was attempting to break the previous world record walk of 210ft across the chasm in Squamish, British Columbia. His line was set at 217ft. But just 20-odd seconds into the walk, disaster strikes! He loses his balance. This is madness right here. We can imagine that it’s…
