Being able to defend yourself from attack is important. You don’t need to go and get ripped and learn how to fight UFC-style, though. But to be as safe as possible, it’s a good idea to get to grips with a few basics. Even if it’s not physically fighting someone off. There are plenty of tips and tricks that you can observe that should cut down on the chances of being attacked.

Places of high risk in attack scenarios are known as ‘fringe zones’. And one such ‘fringe zone’ is getting in or out of a car. It just so happens that this is a vulnerable time when such criminals choose to strike. But you can safeguard against succumbing to an incident in this zone. Walk to and from your car purposefully and confidently and quickly. Met people’s gaze. Act with intent. And – vitally – don’t get distracted by your cellphone or tablet.
