Derby the dog was born with two particularly deformed front legs. No one is quite sure why. It may have been a result of pedigree interbreeding or just bad genetic luck. But Derby’s never really let it bother him. He still happily lives his life, full of energy. That said, he’s only ever managed to stay short term with foster families because his needs are quite unique and specific. Sometimes it’s like that for rescue dogs.
But one foster ‘parent’ was determined to buck the trend and looked into ways to effectively ‘fix’ Derby’s front legs. And came across the idea of 3D-printed prosthetic limbs. She’d tried using specially-made carts, but – while effective – they were far from ideal. So she got talking to some experts and specialists and they all got to work…
Not long afterwards, the new fake legs were ready to try out and worked an absolute treat! You should just watch him go now. In fact, you can! Have a see yourself:
