Astronomers have incredibly discovered an as-yet-unfound NINTH PLANET in our solar system. It’s been dubbed ‘Planet X‘, it’s about the size of Neptune and it’s hidden behind Pluto. It’s thought to orbit the sun once every 15,000 years. There’s no concrete proof of Planet X yet as no pictures have been taken, but scientists are confident in their discovery.
Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, California, are behind the research. And Brown says this of what they’ve found: “If you say, ‘We have evidence for Planet X,’ almost any astronomer will say, ‘This again? These guys are clearly crazy.’ I would, too. Why is this different? This is different because this time we’re right.” The guys have calculated that there’s only about a 0.007% chance that they’re wrong. Nothing like being confident, huh?!
“I could not imagine a bigger deal if—and of course that’s a boldface ‘if’—if it turns out to be right. What’s thrilling about it is that the planet is detectable,” says Gregory Laughlin who is a planetary scientist at the neighboring University of California (UC) in Santa Cruz.
